Michael Crenshaw is a Hip-hop lyricist, spoken word artist, and educator in Portland, Oregon.  Originally from the midwest, Michael was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended high school and community college in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Upon graduation from high school, Michael was given his first teaching job at Loring Nicollet, an alternative high school. It was during high school that Michael began to deepen his understanding of the sociopolitical, economic issues that historically affected communities of color and poor people in the U.S. Further understanding came through organizing youth around these issues helping Michael to develop a global perspective in relation to his approach to learning, teaching and expression.

Currently Michael lives in Portland, Oregon where he does work in public, alternative, and private schools, along with local colleges and universities, teaching workshops on raising social, cultural, political awareness through Hip-hop and spoken word. Michael is also a professional musician, performing with Hungry Mob for over 12 years, using the stage and recorded music to instill and encourage awareness and action.  Micheal Crenshaw is Co-founder of Global Family Net Work and stands as President of the Board of Directors for Education WithOut Borders, an Oregon 501c3 Not for Profit Organization.
